How to Start a Rapid Respond Network with Your Neighbors
A Virtual Workshop Hosted by SE Uplift’s Community Care & Safety Task Force
Monday, April 13 | 5:30 – 7:00pm | Online via Zoom

In an emergency, your closest resource is often the people next door, but only if you’ve already made the connection. Join SE Uplift’s Community Care & Safety Task Force for a virtual workshop that provides a practical guide for building a rapid response network with your neighbors before a situation emerges. Whether you live on a residential block, in an apartment building, or a larger community, you’ll leave with concrete steps to map your neighbors, establish communication channels, and create the groundwork for coordinated action. No prior organizing experience is needed, just a willingness to knock on a few doors! Participants will leave with a toolkit to help them get started.

ABCs of Land Use (Part 2) & Inner Eastside for All
A Hybrid Meeting Hosted by SE Uplift’s Land Use & Transportation Committee
Mon, April 20 | 7 – 9pm | SE Uplift (3534 SE Main St) + Online via ZoomJoin the next Land Use & Transportation Committee meeting to sharpen your advocacy skills and explore ways to support neighborhood growth. Featuring the second module of the ABCs of Land Use, you will learn about how to effectively respond to common development and conditional land use notifications as well as additional notifications you come across.

The Inner Eastside for All zoning project is launching, and we will review high level objectives and the tentative timeline. The community-led initiative advocates for “four floors and corner stores,” envisioning walkable, mixed-income neighborhoods filled with diverse housing and vibrant local retail. The Housing Production Strategy identifies it as a key item in the city’s plans to provide enough housing types and capacity in walkable, mixed-income neighborhoods to meet the existing and future needs of the community.

FISCAL SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

CampOUT Fundraiser

We’re honored that community member Esther Dorn-Medeiros has chosen to support CampOUT through their mitzvah project, a service project undertaken by Jewish teens in their b’mitzvah year. CampOUT, a nonprofit camp for LGBTQ+ youth and allies, is fiscally sponsored by SE Uplift.

Esther shares what CampOUT has meant to them:

“I chose CampOUT for my Mitzvah Project because it’s a place where I feel like I really belong. I always end camp feeling so genuinely happy, and often with a new friend. Recently, I’ve seen many people feeling hopeless about their futures with our current administration. I’ve also seen CampOUT change that. I hope that by my project, CampOUT will be able to reach even more people.”

Esther’s campaign has already raised $850 toward their $3,600 goal. Join them in helping more young people experience the joy and connection CampOUT provides.
