As many of you know, yesterday federal agents teargassed peaceful protesters here in Portland, many of them families with children. Some of my own students were tear gassed for exercising their First Amendment rights. The march was organized by more than 30 unions and organizations calling for an end to federal abuses by ICE and other Homeland Security agencies in our city.

I am asking for anyone who was teargassed yesterday, especially if you were there with your child, or experienced significant harm due to age, disability or underlying health conditions, to please reach out to councilor.koyamalane@portlandoregon.gov. There are options and next steps that could help.

Thank you to all of yesterday’s protesters for standing up and speaking out against fascism and protecting democracy.

With love and resolve,

Teacher Tiffany
