Tracy Grammer | One of contemporary folk music’s most beloved artists, Tracy is renowned for her pure, emotive vocals, perfectly intoned violin, and guitar playing that is by turns percussive and delicate. She is also a gifted storyteller whose incantations add a rare mixture of vulnerability, intimacy, and hard-won insight to her performances. As Joan Baez puts it, “Tracy is a brilliant artist… Her voice is distinctive and beautiful, as is her mastery over the instruments she plays.” As well as The Boston Globe, “Tracy Grammer is among the finest singers and musicians anywhere in folkdom.”
Tom May | For 37 years Tom has been hosting and performing as the founder and director of Winterfolk! He has brought some of the finest folk music to this iconic fundraising event. He is founder and producer of the syndicated radio broadcast River City Folk which retired in 2025 after 40 years. Tom has recorded 17 albums and has been a major presence in American Folk Music for 52 years. He will be joined by Mark Moebeck and his son Dylan May — guitarist, singer, and songwriter known for leading the funk-infused folk project Dylan May & The Message.
Kristen Grainger & Dan Wetzel | A bluegrass-leaning Americana powerhouse of terrific songwriting, lush vocals and great instrumentalists, Kristen and Dan have collected many accolades and awards along with Kristen winning Common Ground 2022 Acoustic Roots Songwriting Contest and 2019 Roots Northwest songwriting competition. Their newest project, Fear of Falling Stars, has climbed the charts and is critically acclaimed.
Gary Furlough & The Loafers | Few in the Pacific Northwest have made as much of an impact on the acoustic music scene. After a career as a network television producer, Gary came to Portland to write and do more music. His ballads are flavored with his Louisiana heritage, swampy and eloquent. His technical skills and passion for being of service have helped Artichoke Music survive and so many singer-songwriters have been heard! Tonight, he is joined by his band “The Loafers” featuring Will Hobbs, Kerry Canfield, and Paul Douglas — all great singer/songwriter/pickers themselves!
Donny Wright & Brad Price | Donny Wright has toured with Tracy Grammer and played on two Dave Carter- Tracy Grammer albums. He often performs with Tom May and has been a part of Winterfolk for many years. Donny Wright and Brad Price have played music together for over 30 years in many bands. Brad Price may be the best Portland guitarist you haven’t yet heard. With an encyclopedic knowledge of styles and sounds, Brad brings the past along to make something tasty and new every time. A consummate sideman, he has worked on both coasts with dozens of artists including Trail Band, Donna Jose, Maureen Andrews, John Lincoln Wright and many more.
Oregon Poet Laureate Emeritus Kim Stafford | Emeritus Professor at Lewis & Clark College, Kim writes, teaches, and travels to raise the human spirit through poetry. In 1986, he founded the Northwest Writing Institute. He has published a dozen books of poetry and prose, including The Muses Among Us: Eloquent Listening and Other Pleasures of the Writer’s Craft and 100 Tricks Every Boy Can Do: How My Brother Disappeared. His most recent book is the poetry collection As the Sky Begins to Change (Red Hen Press, 2024). He has taught writing in many schools, community centers, in Scotland, Italy, Mexico, and Bhutan. In 2018 he was named Oregon’s 9th Poet Laureate.
Kate Power and Steve Einhorn are two of Portland’s most respected and influential musical artists. Known and beloved across the U.S. for their appearances on The Prairie Home Companion, at the Kerrville Folk Festival, and on other prestigious stages, they also made a lasting impact on thousands as proprietors, promoters, and recording and performing artists at Artichoke Music, which continues to carry on their legacy.
