From all of us at Transition Projects,
Happy New Year!
|
|
As we enter 2026, we are thankful for your support of our mission: Helping People Transition from Homelessness to Housing throughout 2025. To achieve our mission you have shown up in so many ways from volunteering to cook and serve shelter meals; handing out mail, hygiene items, and clean clothes in our Resource Center; making sack lunches for distribution by our Outreach Team; attending our special events; bringing cold weather clothing to our Truckload of Coats Drive, and donating online, through Willamette Week’s Give!Guide, a check or stock, all in support of our work.
Our 370 team members come to work every day dedicated to making our community a better place to live and you help our team do just that. You give us hope every day and we simply would not be able to help our most vulnerable neighbors across the metro area as they move from homelessness to housing without YOU. Thank you!

Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
|
|
A message from Chelsea DeLoney, Transition Projects’ Director of Regulatory and Workforce Compliance.
At Transition Projects, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. — a visionary leader whose courage, compassion, and lifelong commitment to justice transformed our nation. Dr. King reminded us that true freedom is not possible unless all people have the dignity of safety, security, and belonging. His unwavering belief in service to others — especially those who are marginalized and oppressed — continues to inspire our work every day.
For over 57 years, Transition Projects has walked alongside people experiencing homelessness in the Portland metro area, providing shelter, housing, essential services, and compassionate support as they navigate one of life’s most difficult transitions. Since our founding in 1969, we have served as a refuge and resource for individuals and families, meeting them with dignity and respect and affirming that housing is a human right.
Dr. King dared us to see the humanity in every person and to confront systems that harm the most marginalized in society. In a time when so many in our nation continue to experience harm, inequality, and exclusion, his words echo with urgency: justice and love must guide our actions. It is in this spirit of service and solidarity that we renew our commitment to those who come to us seeking safety, stability, and hope.
We stand with our participants, staff, volunteers, and community partners in working toward a just and inclusive community — one where everyone has access to a safe home, the support they need to thrive, and the opportunity to contribute their gifts to the world. Dr. King’s legacy calls us not only to serve, but to persist — with courage, with empathy, and with unwavering hope.

We Did It!
|
|
Each year, we’re humbled by the incredible outpouring of community support we receive through Willamette Week’s Give!Guide. We are so grateful to the more than 380 donors who helped us reach our goal this year, raising over $109,000! This funding will help sustain our critical work and day-to-day operations — enabling us to provide wraparound services throughout our housing programs, our nine shelters, our Resource Center, and on the streets through our Outreach Team.
THANK YOU to everyone who donated, shared, or otherwise supported our Give!Guide campaign this year.
Special thanks to our business partners, Tandem Property Management, Columbia Sportswear, and Crisp Salads. And, to Tandem Property Management for providing matching opportunities spurring on community giving!
We are so lucky to be part of this generous and thoughtful Portland community!

Preparing For Severe Weather
|
|
When severe weather strikes, our entire agency works to respond and save lives. Leading up to, and during severe cold winter weather our Outreach Team is out in the field, offering lifesaving supplies, severe weather shelter openings, and information to folks experiencing homelessness.
As temperatures begin to drop and winter is on the way, it is a great time to prepare for severe weather.
Cold Weather Resources:
- Anyone seeking shelter can contact 2-1-1 to identify shelters and warming centers and receive transportation options.
- If you are concerned about someone you see during cold weather conditions, call the non-emergency response line at 503-823-3333 and request a welfare check.
- If someone is unsheltered and their life appears to be in danger, call 9-1-1 for medical attention.
Ways to Help:
- Share this information to increase the chances that someone who needs these services receives the information.
- Donate items like large coats, sleeping bags, and blankets at our main office at 665 NW Hoyt St. so we can distribute them to those in need.
- Volunteer at a Severe Weather Shelter. Contact volunteer@tprojects.org for more information about training and shifts.
