Starting Wednesday, March 11, crews with the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) will upgrade NW/SW Broadway by installing planters and concrete traffic separators in the bike lane buffer. The improvements will reduce ongoing maintenance and improve aesthetics on the highly visible downtown corridor.
PBOT crews will begin their work on SW Broadway between SW Oak and SW Yamhill. This initial phase of work is expected to be complete by mid-May, in time for the 2026 Bloom Tour.
Later this year, crews will extend the improvements to NW Broadway between NW Glisan and W Burnside streets and SW Broadway between SW Yamhill and Clay streets.
Installation of bike lane improvements will require daytime parking restrictions, starting Wednesday, March 11.
People driving on SW Broadway are urged to go slow and use extreme caution, as some people on bikes may choose to share the travel lanes in the area.
Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on select business days and possibly weekends. The bike lane will remain open during construction, but people biking may want to use alternate routes.
The traveling public is advised to expect delays, travel cautiously, observe all closures and use alternate routes if possible. Local access to residences and businesses will remain available. Sidewalks will remain open at all times for pedestrians.
This work is weather-dependent, and the schedule may change.
